Gawler East Link Road
About the project
In the 2015-16 Budget, the State Government announced $55 million for the construction of the Gawler East Link Road (GELR) Project.
The GELR will:
- Support planned residential development in the Gawler East Development Area, as identified in the 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide, the Gawler Growth Areas Transport Framework 2009 and the Town of Gawler Development Plan
- Provide traffic with direct access to Main North Road without travelling through the Gawler town centre, reducing travel times, reducing the likelihood of crashes and cutting the vehicle emissions caused by travel delays
- Provide economic and social benefits for Town of Gawler residents and support local jobs over the life of the project
- Meet the long term strategic objective of a future direct extension of the GELR Project to the intersection of Tiver Road/Main North Road.
What's happened to date?
In November 2016, the Town of Gawler considered a report on the GELR Project and concluded a final decision on its preferred alignment. At that time, Council resolved to endorse the ‘Revised Eckerman Avenue Alignment’ as its preferred route for this roadway.
For further information regarding the determination of the alignment by the Town of Gawler, please refer to the following link: www.gawler.sa.gov.au/home.
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) is responsible for management of the project and will be undertaking further planning, investigation and design work, community engagement activities and preparation for construction.
DPTI, in collaboration with the Town of Gawler, will further develop the concept design which will be provided to the community and stakeholders to seek feedback prior to undertaking the detailed design.
To progress these works, further planning investigations are required which include survey and environmental investigations. Some access onto privately owned land will be required to help facilitate these surveys. Should access to private land be required, DPTI will contact land owners and discuss requirements.
