Belair and Seaford line maintenance and upgrade works

Seaford rail line

Seaford rail closures will take place during January 2016 to undertake electrical wiring replacement works. A full closure of the line will take place on:

  • 27 and 28 December 2015 from 8pm
  • 2 and 3 January 2016 between first and last service (full day)

From Monday 4 January, the Seaford rail line will close between Brighton and Seaford stations until Monday 25 January with normal services resuming on Tuesday 26

During these closures the department will be undertaking essential catenary wire replacement works on the Seaford rail line between Seaford and Brighton Railway Stations.

The catenary wire replacement works can only be completed under an electrical isolation of the overhead wire. The most efficient way to undertake the works is through a rail line closure. The original contractor Laing O’Rourke will replace the wiring, at no cost to the taxpayer.

To reduce inconvenience to passengers these important maintenance works will be undertaken at the quietest time of the year, with many commuters on holidays.

During the full rail line closures substitute bus services will be operating at all stations. For the part closure from 4 – 25 January 2016 substitute bus services will operate between Seaford and Brighton Railway Stations while trains will continue to operate between Brighton and Adelaide Railway Station.  Customer Service Officers will be located at train stations to direct passengers to appropriate buses.

The catenary wire replacement works will be carried out continuously (24 hours a day) from 2 January until 25 January 2016 with normal train services resuming on the 26 January 2016.  Every effort will be made to minimise noise impacts to residents however some noise levels from rail equipment, vehicle movements and essential communication between workers may be experienced.

Track machines will still be operating on the Seaford rail line during this time and care should be taken when crossing the rail tracks.

If you have any questions in relation to the replacement works please call 1300 786 449.
