Planning work is ongoing to determine the staging of construction works to upgrade and electrify the entire metropolitan rail network.
This program of works will consider a range of factors including:
- minimising the impact on commuters and surrounding residents and businesses
- options for alternative public transport during construction
- construction efficiency
- maintaining access to maintenance facilities for railcars
- complex technical and engineering aspects.
Further information about the timing of all rail revitalisation upgrade works will be provided to the community and train customers as it becomes available.
Future works - Stage 3
The track upgrade program is moving back to the Gawler line later this year.
Stage three of the Noarlunga line upgrade (remainder of the line) will be undertaken in 2013, following the completion of the works on the Gawler line.
The next stage of works on the Noarlunga line is currently in the planning phase with exact staging and timing yet to be determined. Current planning suggests that works will commence in mid-2012.
